China's economic slowed considerably during the first two months of the year resulting in the posting of it's weakest factory-reduction numbers in better than 2 years. The data included evidence of the effects of an on going currency battle with the US which resulted in the largest trade deficit seen in over 20 years. Despite a revaluation of it's currency, Chinese exports reversed a negative trend in January "an .5% contraction," joining import figures whic rose 39.6%.

This is a reaction to the continued devaluation of US currency by the fed in an effort to convince China to loosen its monetary restraints. By lower it currency, the Chinese are trying to lower the effects of inflation caused by US and British monetary moves. As the price of the yuan has been manipulated up, it has created the situation that we are seeing in terms of decreased Chinese exports. The recent revaluation of the yuan isn't going to help regain those lost exports but we shall see over the next 12 to 24 months how well they manage inflation. The Chinese economy can grow more but only at the expense of the overall global economy. The real question is how much does the Chinese economy need to retract in order for the US and European economies to expand?
