Federal investigators are attempting to tie high ranking San Diego organized crime figures to the recently completed crackdown against strip club impresario Michael Galardi. Galardi pled guilty to multiple counts of corruption in an attempt to effect change in a San Diego ordinance banning contact between dancers and customers. Galardi the son of a well connected supporter of the Republican party with ties to the owner of Atlanta's infamous Gold Club, owned three high end club's in Las Vegas, San Diego and Kearney Mesa which were raided by FBI agents last March. The investigation turned up several interesting figures which are deeply involved in organized criminality in San Diego and or Las Vegas.

The most prominent link is the one time manager of Galardi's Cheetah club (Kearney Mesa) John D'Intino a man closely associated with Isodoro "Teddy" Matranga. Teddy is the son of Joseph Ernesto Matranga longtime head of the partners San Diego faction. Teddy has largely avoided public scrutiny since he was convicted in connection with an insurance scam nearly 20 years ago. D'Intino is a longtime restaurant working who partnered with Teddy in a restaurant at the Viejas Casino in the early 80s. Another interesting figure named in a subsequent investigation is Charles Tappe. Tappe and D'Intino were also charged with dealing high powered automatic weapons. The case has featured a mid-day raid by FBI officers at San Diego's city hall, the indictment of three councilmen and allegations of mob issued threats.

The FBI reportedly had a 340 lb., agent serving as the clubs security director. Known as Tony Montagna some members of the clubs operation were reportedly unnerved by the agent yet were hesitant to move against the man as Galardi remained a staunch reporter of Montagna. These allegations were followed by news that former Cheetah club manager Vince Tomasello had filed a law suite against Galardi seeking compensation "after being wrongfully terminated." In addition to Cheetah's, Michael Galardi's owns Jaguars in Vegas which is a 20,000 square foot venue worth a reported $15 million. Galardi moved to Las Vegas after selling his million dollar Cardiff home (to the Atlanta Braves Ryan Klesko) and purchasing a $2 million Vegas spread from former NFL star Randall Cunningham. The modest soft spoken club owner now lives in an expansive 30,000 square foot home appraised at $15 million. How far will this investigation go remains to be seen but few disagree that Teddy is the prime target as he is viewed as the most prominent underworld figure in a thriving San Diego underworld.

(Ammendment to the original post)

Former Cheetah bartender John D'Intino was a partner with Isidoro "Teddy" Matranga in the original restaurant at Viejas casino near Alpine. At the time Matranga was the entertainment director at Viejas. He was later charged with racketeering and was suspected of laundering money through Viejas. Matranga is the son of Joseph E. Matranga the long entrenched boss of San Diego. Inspite Cheetah security chief Tony Montagna turning states evidence, Matranga manage to avoid involvment in the Galardi case. Very Happy
