Found this article on Roselli that I hadn't seen before.

http://jfk.hood.edu/Collection/Weisberg%20Subject%20Index%20Files/R%20Disk/Roselli%20John/Item%2013.pdf

One thing I have never really seen explained is why he was moved out of Vegas. Any thoughts on that?

I disagree with the article in that they say he fell out of favor with Giancana. The evidence shows to the contrary. When Sam was in power in Chicago is when Johnny had the power in Vegas. I for one believe the story told by Jimmy Fratianno as to Johnny's status with Chicago when Sam started to have his own legal troubles, that he and Tony Accardo never really got along, and that Accardo was always jealous of John's position in the old days with Capone, Paul Ricca etc, etc..........like he said, once bosses put you on their shit list, there's no getting off. Not to mention, Johnny was having his own legal issues. His arrest in 1966 in Vegas was an "up yours" card, which pretty much spelled the end for his real power there.

Lefty, have you read the book "All American Mafioso"?? It's about Johnny's life and is quite good.

I have read that, but not in a while. I guess part of the reason I wondered why he was moved out was because he and Caifano (and then Spilotro) seemed like very different types. I haven't read Fratianno's book in a while either.

I agree about the Giancana thing - I remember reading somewhere that his daughter seemed sure that Roselli killed SG because he was one of the few people Sam trusted.

Sam's daughter was a nut, there's no way Johnny killed Sam. All signs pointed to Butch Blasi, another trusted friend, and it makes the most sense. When Sam started having his own legal troubles in Chicago, Accardo had to step back in and clean things up until a successor could be named. It was around the same time Johnny also was having issues of his own, mainly the Friars case and Dago Louie ratting him out to the FBI. But Caifano and Spilotoro didn't have nearly the class or respect that Johnny had. They were street thugs, literally. So things changed. Johnny kind of semi-retired, spent most of his time in LA with friends. He's always been one of my favorites and he is definately one who should have had a movie made of his life. A facinating individual.
