USS W.D.Porter

Under the strictest secrecy the Iowa transported President Roosevelt, Admirals Leahy and King, Harry Hopkins, Ross McIntyre, Wilson Brown and Pa Watson to Cairo for one of the pivotal meetings of World War II. Military planners were so concerned about protecting the President and his staff that they decided it best not to advise the three-destroyer escort of the nature of their mission.
