Does anyone have any background on Sam Sciortino? He was supposed to have relatives in the SF family & New Orleans, I think.

Was a native Californian, his father and uncles were active in Los Angeles during the 20s. He was also related to the Desimones and Scozzari.

May have been hidden owner in a trucking company in So. Cal. in the 60's. Jiggy says native Californian, but I could have swore that a distance family member told me his family hailed from Brooklyn, actually convinced them to move out to Ca. and work for him(at the trucking co) 40 years ago. Lost a son and possibly a grandson to cancer while in prison.

Still alive, living in the Palm Springs area.

Jomahmah, I'm suprised to hear he's still alive! Do you know when he was released from prison? Did he have an active roll in the LA family after his release?

About 3 years ago, I was suprised to hear he was still alive too. I believe he got out sometime in the 80's, Jiggy probably knows the date. I haven't see his name in much print since he was released. Maybe he learned his lesson, or maybe he was just another oldtimer that was pushed aside and allowed to retire. I'm told he has a daugther in Orange County who looks in on him regularly. Don't see any talk about him on other site's either.

He was from NY but Buffalo actually. But came to Cal early on.I knew his relative Gaspare Sciortino in SF,he was a really old school guy.Very nice and a gentleman. No doubt a tough customer in his younger days. The Sciortinos are similar to the Aliotos where Milwaukee,New Orleans had tons of them and they all haled from the same areas of Sicily. And they were very involved around these places.

Yes, I've spoken with some of his relatives in the Inland Valley. They own a restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga. As Jomahmah stated he lives in the Desert Hot Springs area and has some family in Moreno Valley as well. Wink
