Pat Casey, manager of Will Rogers opened “The Pat Casey Agency” in New York City on April 1, 1908 taking over United Booking Office (UBO) a business established by Joe Wood a legendary figure who moved from Vaudeville production to the booking of acts. Casey installed his brother Dan as treasurer of the business, a position he held until control was passed onto People’s Vaudeville, an entity controlled by Joe Scheneck acting on behalf of Loew’s . Casey’s booming business was run from a number addresses until 1916 when he joined the Vaudeville Managers Association. This stint was followed by a shift to the Keith-Albee Vaudeville circuit where he served as an executive. In 1926 Casey made the shift from Vaudeville to film where in association with Elisha Walker of Kuhn & Loeb Company, he joined the Association of Motion Picture Producers. His activities here led him into labor arbitration where he employed the services of the likes of young Boston transplant Johnny Roselli as an enforcer. An early eastern representative of Alexander Pantages, Casey’s success allowed him to move into a nine-room Manhattan bachelor pad which was the scene of many lavish dinner gatherings. Roger’s career took off after he selected Casey to replace his former agent Mort Shea in December 1908. Casey immediately increased Roger’s visibility by securing major venues along the Orpheum Circuit. Casey reportedly booked 400 acts per year during this time. Keeping an active schedule

The Pat Casey Agency ceased to operate in 1916 when he joined the Vaudeville Managers’ Protective Association (VMPA), an entity controlled by the Keith-Albee organization. Casey’s association with the (VMPA) lasted six years and led to a particularly close association with John J. Murdock, an executuve manager of the UBO and a behind the scenes power on the Keith-Albe vaudeville circuit later aligned with Joseph P. Kennedy’s Hollywood dalliances. Casey was also a close friend of Sime Silverman, the founder of Variety. Silverman was a staunch supporter of Keith-Albee’s control of the vaudeville circuit and later a key supporter of Joseph Kennedy’s during his Hollywood years. Roselli served as the Los Angeles representative of Moe Annenberg’s Nationwide News Service. Johnny Roselli was often called the Chicago outfits chief representative on the West Coast can be decisively tied into the Boston financial network fronted publicly by Joseph P. Kennedy yet controlled remotely by Kuhn & Loeb’s Elisha Walker. John J. Murdock and Kennedy’s ties to Walker emerged during the 30s as Walker fought a very public battle to wrestle control of TransAmerica from A.P. Giannini. Giannini would loose control of TransAmerica yet retain control over his banking operation. Roselli would go onto manage a segment of TransAmerica holdings. The entity became a hot commodity which sparked the wire service wars of the late 30s and 40s. Roselli’s rise to prominence coincides precisely with Kennedy’s Hollywood withdrawl through an association with longtime Walker partner and Vaudeville and later Hollywood powerbroker Pat Casey and Casey’s ties to John J. Murdock dating back to their days at UBO. Roselli was linked to Eagle-Lion studios, Monte Prosser Productions and Howard Hughes RKO operation.
